Whisper the Racehorse

Whisper's pedigree isn't exceptionally remarkable. Predictably, she has Native Dancer on both sides but not until before the fifth generation. She was a home bred horse from Ocala, Florida.

Her racing record though is a bit more distinguished. She had 35 starts in spite of a few years of injuries, winning three times and in the money another five.

When I discovered this race record, I caught my breath. I climbed on her with a bareback pad one week after her last race. I had assumed that she had been off the track a few months before they shipped her out, I assumed wrong!

She's been through the transitions that most gray horses go through. Often they lose their foal coat to a very dark coat that sheds out over their life to a lighter shade. As they age, they appear more and more light. Don't fall too in love with a 4 year old dapple gray, odds are it will be a fleabitten gray in a few years. Here is Whisper just a few years ago.
