Chute

Jumping chutes can help a horse learn how to stride itself before a jump, gain confidence, and a whole bunch of other stuff they do better without a rider interfering. Tonight a jump chute was a great excuse not to climb on a horse who has fought me and won, running away with me a few times the last couple of nights.

Whisper was too smart for her own good. She figured out all sorts of ways to avoid the jump.

Looks like she is thinking about it, maybe... but no - she spun on her hind quarters and headed back out and around

Okay, so I can't clear a jump set to that height. Laugh if you want, but I will challenge you to a foot race with paddock boots on, in deep sand, with sweaty jeans stuck to you any day of the week. I turned her loose when I thought she had committed and she was out of there again.

I took Whisper back out in the dusky light that was left and set the bar at about one foot of the ground and we ran it together 4 times, we may be destined for a non-jumper after all.
