Jackpot!

First day of 2012 I was out the door running to get on Whisper for a ride. Before I left, an e-mail came through from Whisper's breeder, Trish. She has been following my writing and we talk often about Whisper.

"You are so far away from having the horse you want but she really is in there and when you two get it together, you will be amazed at the ride you will share, but that's a long ways off. Remember it took three years to get her to the track and five years of racing it will take awhile to take all that out. I also want you to know that there was only two exercise riders that could handle her. The rest she dumped and one landed in the manure heap!"

I absorbed it as I drove out to the barn, then tried to be in the moment with Whisper. In the arena today, we were a shining partnership. Everything, I mean everything, came easily. Not one single time did Whisper even jig out of a walk. Once she got a little jumpy around a corner, so we did ground poles and she went right back to business. Squirrels ran in the woods, gunshots rang out from Dawson Forest, even the barn dog came through the arena and none of it mattered.

Full laps, consecutive laps, at trot or canter, whatever I wanted was right there for the asking. Amazing day.

So much fun! Oh how I wish for this all the days!
