Home

We've been doing a lot of work to make the property that we bought a safe and working horse farm for Thoroughbreds. In three and a half months, here's some of the changes we've made to Seven Hearts. (Huge thank you to my husband for working hard on this with me)

What we started with :

Today : (4 pick-up truck loads of garbage removed, nails and screws excavated from dirt floor, dozens of nails removed from the walls, wasp nest removed, paint touch-ups, crossties installed)

I didn't take before pics of the tack room, it was full of garbage and rat remains. Every horizontal board had nails hammered partway in every 3 inches. I still have no idea why. At all levels of the wall. After removing nails, cleaning out, and removing some shelves, installing saddle racks, etc. it's a lot more usable.

Stalls Before :

Stalls Today : (Grate removed and replaced with wood poles, blanket bars and hooks added, stall walls taken down and added wood to make them solid, wire hay racks removed, corner feeders and supports removed, countless wheelbarrows of dirty pine shavings and hay removed)

 Fence Before :

Fence After : (4 strand- Barbwire removed, t-posts removed, poorly anchored corner supports removed. Round posts installed with 2x4" horse safe mesh secured, top rail added, gates replaced or cleaned/painted)

Casualties have been few; strands of my hair lost to a drill bit (for the record, it was tied back), Chris's toenail, and some smashed fingers. The house has also achieved home status with just a few more minor projects to go. This little town of 562 can add the 7 of us officially to the roster, we're calling this home.
